Description

This is the oil version of "Sacred Hour", that I submitted a long time ago.
I prefered to call it "Sacred Hour II", so there would be no confusion. It's a 24 x 30 inch oil painting on canvas.

great picture and amazing coloring..only critique is that her body is much to short for the size of her head and arms.
other than that a very nice done picture.

Oh Christophe this takes my breath away. I have long admired your use of yellow light. So soft and rich. Well I have no words really. I shall just feast my eyes. +10 of course.

Thank you for your comments, everyone :)
Ketchup-Suicide, sorry to disappoint you, but the proportions are right: depending on the person, 7.5 to 8 heads in a full body. This one is even 8.
Maybe the drape gives you this feeling, I don't know.
Thanks for your vote anyway ;)

i had that feeling about the body, too, but calculated the proportions and, yea.. i guess you're right...

it's beautiful, as all your works are

the lighting and atmospheric effects are extraordinary (even for you!) ... The cloth is perfect. But there are some anatomical issues with her face - it appears kinda flattened

This is amazing, the characters and the color all come together to evoke mood and make me ask about what is going on.

It's incredible what you are able to create. I like the light, like a celestial gleam. :) The angel is splendid and the sumptuous wings, there is the feeling to be able to touch them finger. I believe that it's one of my favorite canvas. I like the spiritual symbol which emerges. It's beautiful quite simply. Thank you for this moment. ;)

Very nice. I have no clear idea of how you get that level of smoothness but still retain detail. My only crit is that the perspective on the far side of the ground pattern seems a little too much, bearing in mind it's only a metre or so futher away than the near-side.

This is so beautiful Christophe... The (aptly) golden tones and warmth create a totally amazing atmosphere. The warmth of feeling is also not lost....

First of all I am inspired by this work, it is very moving and has a great spiritual theme. I would love to see a rework with the following for suggestions: The center of focus needs attention. Her dress on the bottom is a real masterpiece, however as your eye moves up the contrast is mixed and she tends to blend in with the angel. I would add some shadow and volume to the clouds close on the bottom and deepen the contrast behind the angel and cool the color ( maybe ultramarine ). Maybe some high cumulus clouds in the back with sunrays breaking through on the right. Intensify the contrast and pull the back edges on top of the wings, and add stronger lighting on the right. Your angels head is really flat as well as his whole image is too solid for an etheric theme. Some stronger lightning clouds or shuttle launch fire clouds would add a powerful contrast to the serenity. Anyway those are small ideas to a large artist.

I'm amused that almost never is a girl allowed to wear anything but a sheet in whatever lands you paint. Hehe. Easiest thing to get reference for too, since nearly every bed has one. Though I'll never get tired of seeing sheet-donning girls painted by you I'd be interested in seeing some varied attire.

The circles she is standing in seem slightly distorted but perhaps that is caused or exacerbated by the camera lens distortion.

Regarding an earlier comment I also think the proportions are fine. She does not look too short for her head at all to me. Indeed, it is refreshing to see some realistic proportions.
